Unclosed browser extension: privacy
Last updated: 2026-10-31
Unclosed saves the tabs you have open so you can close them and get them back later. This page says what the extension reads, where it keeps it, and where it goes.
What the extension reads
- Open tabs: the address, title, and site icon of each tab, which window it is in, and the name and color of its tab group. This is read when you click a save button in the popup, and the number of open tabs is counted for the toolbar badge.
- Browsing history: not in this version. A later version adds History sync, off until you turn it on in the popup; Chrome then asks you for the history permission, and the extension reads visit times only for pages already saved in your Library. You can turn it off again in the popup, which also removes the permission.
Where it is kept
Everything is stored in your browser, in the extension's own storage on your computer. Saved collections stay there until you delete them. You can export any collection as a JSON or CSV file at any time.
Where it goes
Nowhere. This version makes no network requests. The buttons marked "Soon" are for the Unclosed app, which runs on your own computer; a later version sends saved tabs to it at http://localhost:3000, the only address the extension is allowed to contact. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, in any version.
The extension has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party services.
What we never do
- Sell or share your data with anyone.
- Send your tabs or history off your computer.
- Use what the extension reads for anything other than saving and finding your tabs.
Removing your data
Uninstalling the extension removes its storage. The Unclosed app, if you installed it, keeps its own library on your computer and has its own delete-everything control in its settings.
